Beaching Like the Locals - Sant Pol de Mar - Catalonia, Spain

Sadly this is my last Barcelona post, but it sure is a beaut!

We spent one of our last mornings exploring La Boqueria. This is one of Barcelona's most popular tourist attractions because of its central location and diverse selection of produce, meats, juices, fish, eggs, candy, etc.

While the official space on La Rambla was declared as a legal market in 1826, merchants had been selling meat here as early as 1217!

Fresh fruits and veggies are trucked in each morning! Towers of refreshing juices were stacked on every corner!

Where else but in a Spanish market are emu eggs sold across the aisle from candy?

Next we made our way through the colorful streets of Barcelona to the train station.

^^^ Some of the locals don't seem to be too happy with tourists on La Rambla.

An hour-long train ride later, we discovered a quiet coastal town. A kind local had suggested that we escape the touristy Barceloneta Beach and instead explore his favorite local spot.

This is the stunning Sant Pol de Mar!

This quiet town is a complete contrast to bustling Barceloneta from my first Spanish post! With a population of only around 5,000 people, this hidden gem mainly draws day trippers from the city during the summer season. And any of you foodies out there may be interested to know that there is actually a three Michelin star restaurant here called, Sant Pau.

The train dropped us off right on the sand, where we were free to relax for the afternoon!

After lounging for a while, we spotted this rocky bit of sand in the distance and became determined to find the way over there!

And crossing this taller roadway...

We finally came upon this magical spot!

The Mediterranean graced us with some of the bluest water I have ever swam in!

We enjoyed this perfect day relaxing on the beach of Sant Pol de Mar before preparing for our long journey back home to the States! I'm incredibly sad that this is the last of my wonderful trip to share with you. However... I already have my next trip planned out! I don't think I'll ever get my fill of exploring new places and cultures! And I hope that you'll join me along the way!
